Bike fitting may extend to 7pm and into Saturday morning, so please be patient. We do our best to handle camper needs, including equipment discrepancies. Please bring your own aerobars at least partially installed. If you've never had aerobars, we can try to install them for you.
We know that most coaches are still endurance athletes, and there are ample opportunities for activities in the Texas A&M area, including swimming and strength training. Some of these activities may require purchasing a guest pass from the TAMU Rec Center and are subject to facilities hours and rules. We recommend only light training during non-session hours to maintain focus and energy for the challenging curriculum.
We have scheduled an informal group run and group ride around the Tarea--participation is optional. You should bring running shoes for the Run Analysis section of the course, and bring your bike if you want to ride. We are working with sponsors to get extra power-meters, but bring your own if you have one.
- We provide soft drinks (diet and regular), sports drinks, sports bars, fresh fruit, bottled water and snacks throughout the camp, plus pizza lunch (including vegetarian) for Saturday. All other meals, including the optional group dinner on Friday and Saturday night are paid by the group participants.
- Parking:
We will have copies of Tom Rodgers' new book, The Perfect Distance, and Joe Friel may bring some recent books he has published--he's written too many to bring them all. These will be for sale and can be autographed. You may also bring existing copies of an author's work for his autograph. John Cobb will also bring along some prototype models of saddles and gear from Blackwell Research. Some of these may be for sale on a limited basis. We recently received word from Ergomo power meters that we will have some of their units for testing and/or sale at the camp.
We do not allow videotaping (except the swim video portion we provide as part of the camp instruction). You may take still or video during the wind-tunnel sessions for reference purposes. Your still camera shots of our celebrity presenters and yourself are fine, and we will have a professional sports photographer on hand if you'd like to order shots of yourself with speakers at the camp. Please avoid flash photography during actual presentations or demonstrations so as not to distract others. Please understand that publication of still photos, video or sound of camp presenters on a commercial coaching or product website is not allowed except with express written permission from the individual coach or athlete. Like you as coaches, we have sponsorship and management agreements that regulate our appearance on commercial websites. Non-commercial usage or use within the neutral news media is permitted.
Please turn your cell phones and pagers off or to vibrate during the classes, and do not attempt video recording with them during lectures. Please take emergency calls outside the classroom or work area.
The classroom, natatorium and wind-tunnel areas at TAMU are big enough to hold only the paid participants during our sessions. We do not have extra room for spouses or children in these areas. You are welcome to bring others with you to the TAMU Rec Center and Natatorium, but they will need to stay in other public parts of the facility according to those rules and may be required to buy guest pass(es) to enter or use facilities. We only have the pool rented for the swim video instruction portion, so if they want to swim they will have to pay regular Natatorium fees (currently $7/day). Since USAT and USAC do not license minors as coaches, we would not allow those under 18 to register without exceptional circumstances (for example, a junior national or world champion contender with elite knowledge attending with their coach). Adult athletes with expert experience are welcome to register, especially if accompanied by their coach.
Wheelchair and challenged coaches are welcome to attend, but please let us know about any special needs when you register. We are very proud that the sport of triathlon supports and treats these athletes and coaches with equal respect.
Feel free to email us at coach@svi.net or call us at 817 561-6707 if you have more questions. The above main phone number will forward directly to cell phone during the camp.
